The solder points likely were not causing any problem in the first place. So ALOT of time was spent with this other stuff when one of the first things you do is check the pressure. He could have possibly rented the tool or borrowed one and found the problem in minutes. Or the last alternative is take it to a shop and have them check the pressures which wouldn't have been very much and saved alot of time. There is the possiblity that taking apart everything like he did there is a chance of messing up the electronics and then you might have two problems to diagnose and fix. The bottom line is taking the best appoach to diagnosing and fixing the problems without creating new problems. So if you or anyone here has power steering problems, get your pressures checked before you start tearing into things and go from there.
